Who We Are ?

We, CHENSAA The Chennai and Ennore Steamer Agents Association” made its humble beginning in 1956 as “The Madras Steamer Agents Association” when it was felt amongst the twenty steamer agents then to have a body to voice their opinion and needs to various service providers. The earliest record relates to a meeting of the Continental conference held in January 1956 in M/s. Gordon Woodroffe & Co Lt., ,under the Chairmanship of Mr. A.R. Liddard, Director. He requested Mr. K.S.G. Haja Shareeff to form the Association and at a meeting held on 21st September 1956 , 19 steamer agents assembled at M/s .K.P.V.Shaik Mohamed Rowther & Co formed the Association with Mr.Haja Shareeff as the Chairman. During 1956 the founder members elected the following gentlemen as the first set of office bearers :

Committee Members : Mr.Liddard, Gordon Woodroffe, Mr.OBUL Rao, India Stemship, Mr K.S.Janakiram, IC & SA, Mr F.C.Johnson, Bombay Co Ltd, Mr J.E.Batson, Binny & Co

The association was registered under Societies Registration Act of 1860, on 10th Dec 1956. Since then Annual Meetings have been conducted all these years. The Madras Steamer Agents Association changed its name to Chennai Steamer Agents Association in the year 1997 and then to its present name including Ennore in 2002, thus becoming CHENSAA by which it is presently known and conduct its affairs.

Over the years the Association has evolved into a major facilitator between the trade and the shipping community. Its activities have grown manifold in facilitating and moving the EXIM Trade forward for the common good.

The Association participates in meetings with the Terminals, Port Trust, Chambers of Commerce, Port user Associations, Shipping Ministry, Government bodies such as Customs and Immigrations.

The Association had the privilege of the Governor of TAMIL NADU participating at its silver jubilee function on the 20th Nov 1981.

The Association celebrated its golden jubilee year in 2006 at its own premises in New No : 63 Old No : 32, Pophams, Broadway. George Town, Chennai 600 108 and made it a family affair by inviting all is past Chairman and honoring them for their useful contributions to the Association

Association will strive to protect and promote the interest of all its members for a level playing field and undertake active participation in all trade related activities for the common good of its members.

Close follow up on all the developments in the shipping industry that have an impact on the interests of its members . Close liaison with all stake holders in the shipping fraternity to ensure mutual trust and effective and smooth conduct of the day-to-day affairs.

Our Objective

Strive to protect and to promote the interests of all its members. Project and Promote Chennai as a vital maritime hub in the east coast of India.
